Overview
I propose starting a non-profit focused on promoting safety on the roads and promoting history in my hometown town of Haymarket, VA
The population in Haymarket has increased by at least 50% in the past two decades. Some of the roads built for smaller populations have become over-crowded. The oversized population has led to several car accidents in the community. For example, last year, two high school students died while crossing Graduation Dr near Battlefield HighSchool in the Haymarket area. There is also a problem with bikers crowding back roads, which I experience often when driving from my parent’s house into town.
My non-profit would include a small staff (maybe two part time employees) and volunteers. We would research about the changes in roads and public safety in the Haymarket VA, and work with the local Haymarket government. We would design an app that would contain a map of the Haymarket area. It would give information about the safe travels for roads in the area, historical sites, and local news headlines (like from the local paper Bull Run Observer). The app can be used offline, but when it’s connected to the Internet, the app will pinpoint the user’s location on the map.
